Winter Hike Mount Washington

Would you recommend the Kahtoola Micro-Spikes to hike Mount Washington in the winter?

Free Running Shoes

Free Running Shoes

That's my decision as they are yours to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Snowshoeing yesterday for an hour and four good sled runs down Widow Rites hill with our 4yo.

Walking today let's call it a rest day. :-)

Morning Motivation

I am having difficulty with getting motivated running early in the morning on the treadmill. Alarm sounds at 4:30 AM or sooner with my not-wanting-to run body walking on the mill while checking email, blogs, sites, etc. Several non-starts happen but it just doesn't take off. With the weather and end of day tiredness mileage suffers.

Any suggestions?

Night Intervals

Mo-rest day. probably a good idea even though it could've been toughed out.
Tu-night intervals 1M-2M-1M using Bowker Flats for w\u and c\d.

Made the mistake of timing using the Garmin, programmed to auto-track mile splits, so even after writing them down on paper it's hard to say what the true numbers are.

Anyhow, they are not fascinating or fast: Intervals 8-10, 1M-2M-1M @ slightly slower than 10k effort. 3 minutes, 5 minutes recovery.1M-6:55, 2M-7:13/7:06, 1M-6:44.

UPS truck was doing deliveries spewing obnoxious exhaust, sideline Kenyans run up against this all the time with regular traffic. Night vision not as acute or developed to quickly sidestep potholes, snow and ice, sideline deal with it you didn't get hurt and the temperatures were in the low 30s. In retrospect would it have been better to try these on the mill?

Easy 5-8 planned for today. Oh yeah, gotta go shovel more snow.

Distance Run. Saw Big Coyote and Barred Owl

We toured several towns to get 17.25 miles in 2:39 this morning.

Sudbury-large coyote in middle of road, Lincoln-barred owl on tree in front of hemlocks, Wayland-runner with no gloves or hat alongside, Concord she doesn't stop for Cumby's to get fluids, Maynard alterior motive Dunkin Donuts-should not have had them put ice in the water. Walk home for a couple of miles.

Where I grew up they now do this: Race on the Ice! Is that a sport?

Snow Mush

Snow mush is my term for the slushy-firm snow that sticks to the bottom of your running shoe while only fully releasing after 3-5 strides. It's no fun to run in.

I don't expect it to help the inner right shin sensations of late. Left legs seems to do most of the work while both legs are tired. Already?

Continuing to go easy. . . 8 miles in 77:14 on the Skyview Loop for a beautiful sunrise looking out to Boston with my Wife.

Treadmill and Willow Guzzle

Schedule yesterday called for 7-10 miles, it had to be on the mill, my late start and caution pulled in seven miles in 68 minutes. 8:38/mile.
Here is an interesting article for treadmill running that foretells the risk of inury.
8:14 pace today on the ten mile Willow Guzzle Loop. I've been reminiscing the days of being able to lay down the hammer to crank the pace up a notch while cruising by the Concord Country Club.
